Peggy Pope Snyder, age 72, died Oct. 19th, at the Las Fuentes Care Center, Prescott. Peggy was born to Dr. Ira and Regina Pope in Elizabeth, N.J., on Jan. 27, 1933.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Snyder (married Nov. 3, 1972) of Prescott, with whom she has three living step-children, six grandchildren and a great grandson; her brother, Joe Pope of Vero Beach, Fla., and his five children.

Through high school, Peggy was educated by the sisters of the Order of St. Benedict at their academy in Elizabeth, N.J., and after one year of college joined the Order and served as a nun from age 18-33. From 1952 to 1963 she taught elementary school while earning a college degree and in 1964 the Order appointed her Director of their Child Study Center in Ridgefield Park. N.J. Her academic degrees are a B.S. from Seton Hall (Education), a Master's (Phychology) and Doctorate from Catholic University of America (Counceling).

In 48 years of employment, Peggy worded 11 years as a teacher, one year (1964-64) as the Director of the Diocese Child Study Center, one year (1965-66) as a Therapist at the Wilwyck (training) school for Boys, New York City, 24 years as a school psychologist in Marylnad and Louisiana, three years as a full time college professor (U. Southern Mississippi) and upon retirement, from public school psychology in 1963, eight years in her own private practice in St. Francisville, La., but also in association with her husband.

Always prolific in her profession, she published nine research articles in psychological journals, held minor selected professional offices, but was also president of the Maryland and Louisiana School Psychology Associations and is cited in nine Who's Who publications.

At the time of her stroke in 2001, Peggy was employed in private practice, taking violin lessons, playing in a group, visiting the Y three times a week and enjoying extensive travel in the USA and Europe.

Since the stroke she has resided in a nursing home and in 2003 she and her husband came to live permanently in Prescott.

Peggy wished for no services, rather for people to remember her in their hearts as she left this earth and went on to look over her family and friends, as they would do for her.

Arrangements were entrusted to Hampton Funeral Home.
