Joseph Kerstiens – Funeral mass was at noon Wednesday in the Church of St. Theresa, Phoenix, for Joseph Henry Kerstiens, age 68, who lost his life in an automobile accident near Payson last Saturday. Scripture services were at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Whitney & Murphy Acradia Chapel in Phoenix and burial was in St. Francis Cemetery.

According to reports, Mrs. Kerstiens, alone in his car, lost control of the vehicles which left the road and overturned, throwing him out and crushing him.

A native of Colorado, he moved to Phoenix in 1910 where he founded the Kerstiens’ Parts & Machine Co., which he operated for 20 years before retiring. He founded the Kerstiens’ Auto Supply here which later became the Wickenburg Auto Supply, Inc. He was a member of the Desert Caballeros and the Elk Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine of Phoenix; two sons, Michael of Phoenix and Gene of Redondo Beach, Calif., and a daughter, Mrs. Richard Grantham of Phoenix; four sister and 11 grandchildren also survive.
