Lowell (Rog) Pearce

Lowell "Rog" Pearce, 82, died Dec. 26, 2003 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was born Feb. 4, 1921 to James Powell and Ione Rogers of Linden. Rog was the oldest son in a family of seven sisters and two brothers. At the age of 15, his father was killed in a car accident. While continuing his high school education, he helped his mother farm and ranch, as she taught school in several of the surrounding communities, she would travel on horseback taking her younger children with her.

In June 1940, Rog married Mary Louise Allen from Taylor, in the Mesa Arizona Tempe. Together they had six boys and three girls, Lowell (Margo) Pearce, Donnette (Carl) Kent, Gerald (Cindy) Pearce, Pamela (Robert) Derrick, Jack (Lorena) Pearce, Dean Pearce, LaVerl (Cindy) Pearce, Rick Pearce, Glenna (Vance) Plumb. Rog was a scout leader for many years, on the Linden School Board, and a 4H leader in Navajo County.

His love for horses and expertise to trail them led to several winning trips to Phoenix, Fort Worth, and California in calf roping, team roping, and steer roping. He was a rodeo stock contractor putting on rodeos at the Navajo and Apache reservations, California, Arizona, and New Mexico. Being on the Livestock Grazing Board in Arizona, he spent time in Washington, D.C. trying to get legislation changed for ranchers with permits on Government lands.

Mary died in 1989, after a long battle with cancer, Rog met Cecilia Shain and they were married Feb. 12, 1993. He moved to Mesa and continued to run cattle on leased land there. Rog was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions in the church, teaching by his love, example and faith to everyone he came in contact with. He served a mission among his friends the Fort Apache Indians.

In Oct. 2000, Rog was diagnosed with Valley Fever, which was hard for him to accept, spending extended periods of time in the hospital. He had been recuperating at his sister Vivian's home in Lehi for several months, then decided to visit his daughter Donnette on a ranch in New Mexico for Christmas. On Dec. 16, he suffered a severe stroke there and passed away at the Albuquerque Medical Center.

Rog is survived by his children; 34 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren; one brother Joy T. Pearce of Linden; seven sisters, Myrna Merrill of Linden, Clea Adams of Show Low, Adell Lee of Taylor, Vivian Adams of Lehi, Beuna Hepler of Show Low, Ione "Babe" Whipple of Show Low, and Leone Reidhead.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Show Low Stake Center The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2 at the Owens Mortuary in Show Low. Internment will be in the R. V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake.
