Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, March 31, 2004 Eugene Theodore Bennett, 87, of Mayer, born Aug. 15, 1916, in Prescott, died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Mayer. Celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, with a reception to follow at the Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel, 8480 E. Valley Road, Prescott Valley. Private cremation was by Bradshaw Crematory. In lieu of material donations, please make monetary donations to the YRMC Hospice, P.O. Box 26565, Prescott Valley. Arrangements by Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel. ----------------------------------- Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, April 18, 2004 Eugene Theodore Bennett, of Mayer, passed away at the age of 87 on March 29, 2004. He died at home with his wife of 66 years, Josie Edgel at his side. Eugene, called (Gene) by many who knew him well, was born on Aug. 15, 1916, in Prescott, the son of Grant and Catherine Bennett. The Bennetts were one of the original pioneer families of Yavapai County. During their early marriage, Eugene and Edgel operated the H Lazy A/Griffin Ranch, on the Agua Fria River. In 1948, they moved to Mayer and Eugene began his career with Northern Arizona Light and Power, now known as Arizona Public Service Company. His career with APS Included installing power lines on horseback in the Crown King area, Installing and working on power lines throughout Yavapai County, and Installing meters and taking meter readings. He retired from APS in 1981, after 33 years of service. His family all lovingly called him Papa, and he was a man devoted to his wife, children, and his generations of grandchildren, for whom he always had aa song, story, or time for an adventure. He loved to fish, gamble, play the guitar, and sing. Gene, his father, and brother, Marvin, were all accomplished musicians. Their cowboy band played music and entertained throughout the Yavapai County area. Eugene is survived by his wife, Josie Edgel Bennett of Mayer; his two sons, Gene (Susan) Bennett of Mayer, Robert (Kristi) Bennett of Page; his daughter, Sherrol (Eldon) Pitts of Kingman; his sister, Irene McNeil of Sparks, Nev., and he is also survived by nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Catherine Bennett, and brothers, Marvin and Ralph Bennett. A Western Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 24, at 2 p.m., at the Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel, 8480 East Valley Road, in Prescott Valley, with a barbecue dinner immediately following. In lieu of material donations, monetary donations may be made, in memory of Eugene Bennett, to the YRMC Hospice, P.O. Box 26565, Prescott Valley, AZ 86312, or to the American Cancer Society, Arizona Division, 2724 East Lakin Suite #9, Flagstaff, AZ 86001. The family would like to thank the many friends and the YRMC Hospice staff for their help and support during Eugene's illness. A private cremation will take place at Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel and Crematory. Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel and Crematory assisted the family with the arrangements.
