The Arizona Republic 3/17/2010 Joel Shepard, age 31, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010, in Tempe, Arizona. A native of Lillian, Alabama, Joel was devoted to Alabama football, his family, his friends, and especially to his wife and children. He attended the University of Alabama as an undergraduate and in 2008 received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Arizona State University. At the time of his passing, Joel was a second-year law student at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. He was also a graduate of the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe, Arizona, and worked in Hollywood as a studio engineer on several platinum records. Joel was a dynamic and passionate man; he touched the lives of everyone he met. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; their children, Isaiah and Layla; and his "beautiful" dog, Lucy. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth (Betsy) Virgin Shepard; his step-mother, Janice (Jan) Griffin; his sister, Katherine (Kate) Shepard; his loving aunts and uncles; and friends across the country. Joel was preceded in death by his father, William Raymond (Ray) Shepard Jr.; and his childhood best friend, Bubba. At Joel's family home in Lillian, Alabama, a service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 18th. In Arizona, a memorial gathering will be held 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 29th, in the Heritage Room of the Arizona State University Club, located on the ASU campus at 425 E. University Drive. All are invited to attend and share memories. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for his children's education.
