Carolyn Mildred "Millie" Tucker - Grandma Tucker, as she was known to most of the community, was born May 1, 1923 in Sardenia, Ohio, and passed quietly from this life at her home in Springerville June 28, 2004.

Millie grew up in Ohio, but not under the easiest circumstances. She lived in a succession of foster homes. She married at age 17 to Fred Sells, Jr., who served with the U.S. Army during World War II. She divorced in 1965, and then was re-married to Wymon Lafayette Tucker in 1971. Both Fred and Wymon preceded Millie in death, Fred in 1984 and Wymon in 1986.

Millie worked hard throughout her life, and was employed at various times as a waitress, doing office and home cleaning and managing apartments with her daughter Grace. Moving to Phoenix in 1959, Millie lived there until she moved to Springerville on her birthday in 1981. She loved animals and gardening, and especially enjoyed her wide variety of farm animals she collected, once she moved to Springerville. Most of all, she loved her family and kids in general. She specialized in helping her neighbors and being "Grandma Tucker" to everyone.

Millie is survived by her daughter, Grace Elfritz of Springerville; step-daughter Darla Schurman of Phoenix; sons Fred Sells III, Casa Grande, Jeremiah Sells, Seattle, Washington, Clarence Sells, Casa Grande, John Sells, Henderson, Nevada; and step-son Lloyd Tucker, Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and more than 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marian Darlene.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 29, at Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary Chapel, Springerville. She was interred at the Eagar Cemetery.

Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary, Springerville handled the arrangements.
