He was born in Ford Springs, Ark., near Batesville in May of 1916. Son of Erwin R. McGuire Sr. and Selma Aeby McGuire, descendants of early pioneers of the 1700s, he was raised the only child after the loss of his infant sister. His early life was spent in Batesville. His father died early, and after his teen years he was in Houston, Texas, during World War II years driving tanker trucks. He came to Morristown in 1944, drove the school bus and worked in the local grocery. In 1953, he married a long-time local resident Ena LaMar Lilly. They did resort work in Phoenix and Reno, Nev. In 1957, they leased the Morristown Grocery, where they had a thriving business for 15 years. He also had the Castle Hot Springs mail contract for more than 25 years, when he finally retired and built their home. He was an avid sportsman, and he and his wife spent many a joyful time on the Arizona lakes. When his health failed, he was pretty much home-bound under Hospice Care. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years; his stepson Howard Lilly (Louise) of Chino Valley; grandchildren Patricia Johnson (Kevin) of Tulsa, Okla., and Wayne Lilly (Jane) of Phoenix; and great-grandchildren Korena West (Al N.), A.J. Graffeo of Tulsa, Okla., Leigh Ann Lilly of California, and Travis Lilly of Phoenix; his wife’s brother Dwight LaMar (Marie) and sister Ila Sutherlin (John) of Glendale; and extended family. Graveside services were held Saturday (May 24) at the Morristown Cemetery, with Pastor Mike Jones of the Christian Fellowship Church officiating. A reception was held following services at the church, with the Woman’s Club of Morristown assisting. Memorial contributions can be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ. 85014-5656. Arrangements were under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory.
