The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ June 4, 2008, p. A10. James Walter Newbill was born July 11, 1929 in Redmond, Ore., to Howard P. Newbill and Merlie Hurt Newbill. He graduated from Redmond Union High School in 1947. He entered the United States Air Force in 1952 serving at Parks Air Force Base in California and then at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He was medically discharged in 1953. He married Jacqueline Ramsey Bryant in San Bernardino, California on May 21, 1954. They had two children, Tamara Kaye and Anthony James. He farmed and raised cattle in Madras, Ore., and at Grizzly, Ore., for 52 years. He received the Cattleman of the Year award for Jefferson County, Ore., in 1968 and also received Conservation Farm of the Year award for the Central Oregon counties in 1986. His hobbies were fishing and bowling. He participated in League Bowling in Redmond and Madras, Ore., for 42 years. He was a life member of the Madras Elks Lodge 2017. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Jacqueline; daughter Tamara Newbill of Portland, Ore.; son Anthony Newbill and his wife, Kelly; grandchildren Austin James Newbill of Wickenburg and Terra Rae Smith of Culver, Ore.; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by sister Phyllis Griswold of Culver, Ore.; his uncle Jim Hurt of Wickenburg; Aunt June Newbill Law of Eugene, Ore.; uncle Robert Newbill of Dallas, Texas; one niece and two nephews, all of Oregon. There will be no service at his request. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory. |
