| The Arizona Republic 4/1/2010 Kuhlman, Martin March 1921 - March 2010. Resident of Sun City West. MSgt Retired, USAF/ W.W.II, Korea, Viet Nam. After a struggle to recover from injuries incurred in a traffic accident, Marty passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. He was the middle of nine children born to Emma and Gotlieb Kuhlman of Minco, Oklahoma and was the beloved husband of Hazel Kuhlman for 66 years. Marty retired from the Air Force in 1965, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal for Excellent Service throughout his 22-year military career. He received many commendations and honors too numerous to list while serving in the capacities of Mess Sergeant early in his military assignments to his training and performance in the field of Airframe Repair Supervision later in that career. He was stationed in Tinian in W.W.II, with the 509th Bombardment Group, and had assignments as well in California, Guam, Maine, New Hampshire, Cape Cod, Texas, Georgia, and England. Upon leaving the armed forces he embarked on a second career with the Fairfield Unified School District in California as Carpenter and Maintenance Supervisor, making many friends in the academic and administrative staff there. After retiring from the School District, Marty and wife Hazel, started traveling around the country in their motor home and eventually, in 1994, relocated to the Sun City West community. Marty will forever be remembered by his beloved children Charles Kuhlman, and Suzi McKinney, numerous and treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Marty loved reading, wood carving, baseball games, traveling in his motor home, laughing, being with his family, having fun with friends. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor in all his activities. His experiences in the military service were the shaping of his undying patriotism and love of his country. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service with Honor Guard on Friday, April 2nd, 2010, at 11 am at the Arizona National Cemetery on Pinnacle Peak Road near Cave Creek Road in North Phoenix.
