Paul Samuel Taylor

Paul Samuel Taylor of Congress, died Jan. 26, 2000 in Wickenburg. He was 85.

Mr. Taylor was born Nov. 12, 1914 in Leavenworth, Kan., and had lived in Arizona for five years.

Being one of four children of Mr. and Mrs. Dock A. Taylor, he grew up in eastern Kansas and southwest Missouri. He married his wife Dorothy in Jul of 1935 in Joplin, Mo., where he was a leader of the Boy Scouts of America, choir member in his church and a teacher of Sunday School.

Mr. Taylor served as an army officer in World War II for four years, holding the rank of Major for the U. S. Army Reserve, and also served as Battery Commander and Battalion Executive Officer 180th Field Artillery for the California National Guard.

He and his family became residents of Rosemead, Calif., in 1948, establishing Taylor’s garden, a wholesale nursery business which he owned and operated.

Paul became very active in the local government in Rosemead. He was elected Mayor numerous times, served on the city council, was chairman of the Rosemead Planning commission and the Community Board of United Way, was director and past president of the Rosemead Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Los Angeles Chaper of California Association of Nurserymen, director of the California Nursery Growers Association, as well as many other community service organizations in the Rosemead area.

He was very active member of the Senior Anglers fishing group and had always been know as one the greatest fishermen in the area.

Paul and his wife, Dorothy retired and moved from Vista, Calif., to Congress, Ariz., in 1995. He became a member of the Kiwanis Club, never leaving out time for his planting and gardening, which had always been his life-long passion.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Congress; daughter Jean Langley of Congress; son Kent Taylor of Mexico; grandchildren Paul, Dan, Carl, Virginia, Dwayne, Toni, Sue, Tiffany, and Christy; great-grandchildren Michelle, David, Lindsay, Megan, Brenda, Christy, Christian, Celeste, and Patience; brother Ray Taylor of Congress and sister Alma Harper of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his son Paul David Taylor and brother Clyde Taylor.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home with pastor Gary Golike officiating.

Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
