Violet Mae Norris was born to Joseph and Mae Bond, Sept. 22, 1920, in Herrin, Ill. Violet grew to be a talented musician winning national honors with the bass clarinet at orchestral competitions in high school. She played the piano by ear even through the later years of her life. She married Lester Clinton Norris on Dec. 14, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo. Violet worked as a secretary for many years while simultaneously raising two children.

She and Lester moved to Taylorville, Ill., in 1973, where they were known to grow the best vegetable gardens in the area. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Taylorville. Violet worked again as a legal secretary in Taylorville for many years and was able to keep her secretarial skills throughout her lifetime.

They moved to Victorian Estates in Prescott Valley, Ariz., in 1996, where they were members of the Mingus View Presbyterian Church.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, after 61 years of marriage in 2001. Violet had three older brothers: Dennis Bond, Burton Bond and John Bond; two older sisters: Opal Parks and Mary Cox of Illinois, all of whom preceded her in death. Violet is survived by son, Ronald Gene Norris of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and daughter, Barbara Frushon, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; a close cousin, Judy Sorgenfrei of Brentwood, Mo.; Arizona nieces Gloria Tyler and Pat Telford and nephew Dennis Cox of Taylorville; also various nieces throughout Illinois.
Violet passed away Friday, June 20, 2008, in Prescott. Her service will be at Mingus View Presbyterian Church, 8340 E. Leigh Drive, Prescott Valley, Ariz., at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, with graveside services at Heritage Cemetery in Dewey immediately following.

Violet’s daughter, Barbara, wishes to thank Brighter Days Care Home in Prescott Valley; YRMC West staff including Dr. William Devito; and Hospice Family Care of Prescott for the compassionate and loving care they all provided to Violet.

Sunrise Funeral Home of Prescott Valley was entrusted with Violet’s final arrangements.

Rest in peace with God, my dear mother.
