A. F. Champie, 80, Pioneer Arizonan, Is Summoned Here

Funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon for A. F. Champie, 80-year-old Arizona pioneer, who passed away at his home in Wickenburg, on Sunday, February 11th, little more than a month after celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary.

Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

The Champies celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last Christmas Day. Mr. Champie was bedridden at the time. His wife, Nettie, is 78 years old.

Mr. Champie came to Arizona in 1888 from Texas. He was married four years earlier in San Antonio. He settled first in Yavapai County, engaging in mining and cattle raising. A Phoenix resident from 1908 to 1918, he moved to Wickenburg where he lived until his death.

Also surviving are nine children: Mrs. Carl Roeser, Phoenix; Mrs. James Walker, Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. R. F. Schaefer, Tucson; Mrs. James Mohme, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. George Gemmell, Wickenburg; Mrs. Joe Lieber, Los Angeles, Calif.; Alfred C. Champie, Wickenburg; Russell Champie, Nevada City, Calif.; and James Champie, on furlough in Wickenburg after service in the Philippines with the Seabees.
