Rites Held For Frank Tarbutton

Death came last Thursday afternoon to another pioneer Wickenburg resident, Frank Tarbutton, who had lived in this town nearly half a century.

Funeral services were held in the Wickenburg Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday conducted by the Rev. R. L. Jenkins of the First Baptist Church and burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

For many years Mr. Tarbutton owned and operated a grocery store and rooming house in the building at the corner of Tegner and Apache Streets, a portion of which was occupied until recently by Ted's Radio Shop. Johnson's Department Store, when erected a number of years ago, stands on another portion of the property where Mr. Tarbutton had his store and rooming house.

In 1929 Mr Tarbutton built the building which his son Victor occupies today with his Western Auto Store. The building was constructed for the Pay 'N Takit grocery which later became the Safeway here.

Mr. Tarbutton was born January 17, 1879 in Hillsboro, Texas, where he grew up and received his elementary education. He studied law at the University of Texas and was admitted to the Texas bar but never practiced law. He first visited Wickenburg in 1907 but returned to Texas where he taught in the Culbertson School for Boys in Austin and then operated a book store in Hillsboro.

Upon moving to Wickenburg he engaged in mining, owning properties east of town on the Constellation Road.

Mr. Tarbutton is survived by his widow Blanche, son Victor and four grandchildren
