Joan E. Ashby, 69, of Prescott, Ariz., born Aug. 1, 1938, in Winnipeg, Canada, passed away July 11, 2008, at her home in Prescott, Ariz.

Memorial service to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society Southwest Division, 2723 E. Larkin, Suite 9, Flagstaff, Ariz. 86304.

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with final arrangements.

Joan Ashby passed away on July 11, 2008 at her home in Prescott, Arizona, after a long battle with cancer. She was 69 years old. Joan was born August 1, 1938 in Winnipeg, Canada to John Hammer & Esther Boden.

Joan was a resident of Yavapai County since 2003 and previously of Orange County, California.

She married her soul mate Gorden Ashby on August 16, 1958 they shared many happy memories together. Joan enjoyed being a homemaker, but also enjoyed giving back to the community by volunteering at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Joan was a selfless individual who always took care of others before herself.

Last year she took a cruise on The Queen Elizabeth from New York to the Caribbean with her husband Gordon and she had the time of her life. Along with traveling she enjoyed bowling, needle point, and camping. Joan was proudest of her family and giving back to those who have lost there way.

Joan is survived by husband; Gordon Ashby, Prescott, Ariz.; sons, Scott , wife Catherine Ashby, Prescott, Ariz., Todd, wife Jaqueline, Lake Forest, Calif.; sister, Grace Roberts of South Port, England, grandchildren, Ian, Elsie and Rachael.
