| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, March 6, 2005 Dallas C. Allred, M.D. On March 3, 2005, Dallas C. Allred, M.D., went home to be with the Lord. He was born in Alma, N.M., on June 12, 1926, to John Thomas Allred and Ida May (Anderson) Allred. Dr. Allred is survived by his wife and continued companion, Floy Ann (Gray) Allred of Prescott, son Joe Shallenberger and his wife Hara of Arnold, Md., son Randy W. Allred and his wife Sandi of Prescott, and daughter Tracy (Allred) McConnell and her husband Dave of Prescott; six grandchildren: Connie, Jonathan, Kristy, Sierra, Will and Garrett; and one of six brothers, W. Con Allred and his wife Vera of Glenwood, N.M. Raised in Glenwood, N.M., he traveled to Silver City, N.M., for his education. After graduating from Teachers College High School in 1943, he soon enlisted in the U.S. Navy and sailed on a destroyer escort, the USS Foreman, during World War II. Upon completing his enlistment in 1946, he attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces until 1949, when he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. While working as an engineer for Westinghouse in Chicago, he made the decision to attend medical school at Northwestern University, from which he graduated in 1957 with his M.D. He was soon drawn back to the Navy to complete his residency and internship at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif. During this time he sailed on the USS Gen. Edwin D. Patrick and completed his duty in June 1959. During Dr. Allred's academic studies he was a member of several organizations including Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities, and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Dr. Allred began his career as a family physician in New Mexico and moved to Prescott in 1964. During his 39-year career as a physician he was a member of the American Academy of Family Practitioners, the American Medical Association, and the Yavapai Regional Medical Center staff. He also served as an honorary member of the staff of the Attorney General of New Mexico, a member of Phi Kappa Phi, and a member of the Arizona Governor?s Health Council. Dr. Allred was a member of the United Methodist Church. While he derived the most joy from his practice, he also enjoyed the outdoors and loved hiking, hunting and fishing. He was an avid news buff and enjoyed poetry, word jumbles, and many kinds of music. During his last years, he found his niche laughing with, comforting and assisting others, while residing at the Margaret T. Morris Center. He was respected and loved by all and will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be on Tuesday, March 8, at 2 p.m., at the Prescott United Methodist Church, with military honors rendered by American Legion Post #6. Cremation will be private at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley, Ariz. Arrangements were entrusted to Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home. Information provided by survivors. |
