Steve L. Thompson passed away early Jan. 27, 2005, much too soon after a devastatingly brief, yet bitter fight with cancer. Born May 16, 1943, Steve was a dearly loved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

Though Iowa-born, Steve spent most of his 61 years in Arizona, a state he truly loved. Moving to Williams as a high school freshman, Steve met his beloved wife of 40 years, Toni. Steve went on to graduate from ASU in Tempe, while Toni completed her nursing degree. Later living in Phoenix, Tucson and Mesa, Steve and Toni have been residents of Prescott since 1988. With his ever-present smile, big, hearty laugh, and kind and compassionate ways, Steve was a friend to a countless number over the years and adored by his family. Always the first to lend a helping hand, he touched the lives of many people. He was a lover of books, NASCAR, and the outdoors. Since retiring he and Toni loved to pack up their motor home and travel the country with friends, Nancy and Orville and Bill and Madeline, visiting family and seeing new places. He always considered Arizona his home, though, and never wished to be away from its mountains and beauty for too long. Steve will remain in the hearts of those who loved him for an eternity.

Steve is survived by his wife, Toni; his daughters, Lisa and Julee; his son, Jeff; his grandchildren, Michael, Anastasia, Jory, Joshua and Chloe; his parents, Vern and Frances; his brother, Don; sister-in-law, Eydie; and niece, Brea.

A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m., at the Prescott United Methodist Church.
