Hazel (Nichles) Benedict

Hazel Nickles Benedict, age 97, of Tempe, passed away on March 5, 2005. She was born on July 22, 1907, in Masham, Okla., and grew up in La Plata, N.M.

In 1932, she married Franklin J. Benedict, former superintendent of Benson Public Schools and Tempe Union High School District, and they spent their married life in Benson and Tempe, Ariz. Hazel was a long-time member of Tempe Women?s Club, an avid bridge player, and was honored as a Tempe All-American Woman in 1985.

Hazel Benedict was predeceased by her parents, 11 brothers and sisters, and her husband, Franklin, in 1997. Her survivors include: two sons, Franklin O. and his wife, Sharron of Prescott and John C. and his wife, Jane of Tempe; granddaughters, Rhonda Rosdahl and her husband, Keith, of Prescott, Jennifer Benedict of San Francisco, Julie Benedict of Phoenix, and Kelly Benedict of Tucson; great-grandchildren, Levi, Sierra and Alexa Rosdahl, Prescott; brother-in-law, Sam Benedict and his wife, Kay, of Casa Grande, sisters-in-law, Irene Benedict of Tempe, and Barbara Nickles of Elgin, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 2621 South Rural Road, in Tempe on Friday, March 11th, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at East Resthaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, Ariz., 85014.
