Larry Grode went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Palm Desert, Calif., after his courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Watertown, S.D., on April 11, 1964. He grew up and worked on the family farm in Webster, S.D. During high school, he was a state wrestling champion. As a young adult, Larry moved to Tempe, Ariz., and began working as a roofer. Then he earned his AA in Electronics and was employed by Motorola. For fun, he was a volunteer for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Posse, enjoyed cycling races and horseshoe competitions. Larry began his eight years with Qwest in Tempe as a “cable guy.” Transferring to Prescott, Ariz., a few years ago, he began working as a network technician. He embodied the Qwest “Spirit of Service,” always putting his heart into making customers happy.

Larry’s wish was to be laid to rest near Sea World in a private service at sea. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Medical Oncology and Therapeutic Research, City of Hope, Duarte, Calif.; (626) 930-5483.

Larry is survived by his wife, Brenda Baca; his parents, Ray and June Grode; and his nine siblings, Mike Grode, Mary Fox, Ron Grode, Barbara Baumgarn, Marsha Cantrell, Cheryl Sime, Dave Grode, Dennis Grode and Roger Grode.

The gifts of his warm smile, sense of humor and gentle spirit will always be treasured.

Larry Grode, 44, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away on July 6, 2008. He was the son of Ray and June Grode. He was the brother of Mike Grode, Mary Jo Fox, Ron Grode, Cheryl Sime, Barb Baumgarn, Marsha Cantrell, Dave Grode, Dennis Grode and Roger Grode. He was a gentle soul who was loved by all. His wishes on life are expressed below:

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.

I’m following the path God laid for me.

I took His hand when I heard His call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much, Good friends, good time, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.

Larry will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Prescott Christian Church, 501 South Senator Highway, Prescott.
