Terry Averil Dunn of Prescott Valley, Ariz., passed away suddenly Friday evening at the home of best friend Belva Cole.

Born to Leona White Dunn and Menzen “Jim” Dunn in the Territory of Hawaii On Feb. 18, 1948, Dunn grew up in a Navy family. He had fond memories of living in many locations including Florida and Morocco. Eventually the family settled in Garden Grove, Calif., and in 1965 he graduated from Santiago High School.

Dunn was an extremely intelligent individual with a flair for trivia; in 1975 he became a game show champion. He was also a member of Mensa.

Dunn was an avid fisherman; “Just one more cast!” was his fishing mantra. “Just one more!” was an appropriate theme for his life; he survived three open-heart surgeries before 40. At 27 years old, he was given six weeks to live, but he beat the odds and viewed every additional day as a gift.

Dunn was passionate about politics. An active member of the Libertarian Party, he was a 2006 contender for the District One senate seat.

He was proud to be a 10-year employee of Prescott Aerospace.

Dunn is survived by a brother, Jim Dunn of Garden Grove, Calif.; a sister, Pamela Dunn of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Shannon Dunn Grable of Santa Ana, Calif., and Shayla Dunn of Madison, Wis.; and two granddaughters, Alice and Tamber Grable of Santa Ana, Calif.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Prescott Church of Christ, 1495 East Rosser St., Prescott, AZ 86301. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Terry’s name to the United Way of Yavapai County.
