The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, June 27, 1978, page 12.1 Genevieve Sparkes Genevieve McNally Sparkes, 79, died at Wickenburg Hospital Saturday, June 24. A member of a prominent Prescott pioneer family, she attended school in Prescott and was a gradate of Tempe Normal School, now Arizona State University. She recently attended her 50th class reunion at the university. Mrs. Sparkes taught in the Prescott elementary schools, and tutored at Sacred Heart School and St. Joseph's Academy. She later moved to Wickenburg and taught here for 20 years prior to her retirement. She is survived by two nephews, Dr. J. B. McNally and D. G. F. McNally, both of Prescott; and a niece, Mrs. Kathleen Pape of Phoenix. Rosary will be recited at the Ruffner Funeral home at 7 this evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday with burial following at Mountain View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Scholarship fund of Sacred Heart School, 131 N. Mrs. Sparkes was an elementary school teacher in Prescott until the late 1950's when she moved to Wickenburg. She also taught in Wickenburg for 20 years. Mrs. Sparkes taught first and second grades from 1950 until 1953 and then was a second grade teacher in Wickenburg until 1969. Mass for Mrs. Sparkes was Wednesday morning this week in Sacred Heart Church in Prescott. She was a Prescott native ad a member of a pioneer Prescott family. Her father, Dr. John B. McNally, settled in the Prescott area in the 1880s. She also had taught elementary school in Prescott before moving to Wickenburg. Surviving are two nephews and a niece. |
