Clyde Sanders

COOLIDGE - Clyde Sanders, 92, of Coolidge died Dec. 17, 2006 at RTA Hospice House in Casa Grande.

The memorial service will be held later.

Mr. Sanders was born Aug. 31, 1914 in Sandyston Township, Sussex County, N.J., to Frank and Lulu Sanders. I

n World War II he served as a glider pilot, mechanic and aerial gunner. He logged numerous flights, survived two plane crashes and his only complaint was that he "had lost his warm Army-issue jacket." His decorations and citations included: Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with three bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Service Medal with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal and Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Battles and campaigns included the Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea and South Philippines Liberation. He received an honorable discharge in 1945.

He worked for the New Jersey Department of Transportation from 1955 until retirement in 1974 as a supervising garage foreman. He received his 50-year Master Mason card in 1997. He led a very caring, positive and productive life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in 1986, and two brothers, Ernest Sanders in 2000 and Clarence Sanders in 1944. Survivors include his companion and caregiver, Marilynne Loonsfoot; a sister, Evelyn Eldred of Lafayette, N.J.; three nephews; and two nieces.
