Harry Alanis

Harry 'Uncle Harry' Alanis was born in Jerome, Az. on Oct. 15, 1923, and passed away on Jan. 27, 2005.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Natividad Alanis; his father, Pablo Alanis; his brother, Eugene Alanis; his sister-in-law, Frances Alanis; his brother-in-law, Phil Lucero, and great-great-nephew, Jon Alanis.

Uncle Harry is survived by eleven nieces and nephews: Gerald Alanis (Carol) of Phoenix, Paul Alanis (Karen) of Prescott, Teresa Silva (Rudy) of Prescott, Larry Alanis (Christine) of Kingman, Robert Alanis (Margaret) of Tucson, Barbara Barker of Prescott, Jessie Flores of Prescott, Juan Flores of Prescott, Angel Flores of Prescott, Philip Flores of Prescott, and Rosemary Pittman (David) of Washington.

Harry is also survived by eight great-nephews and great-nieces, nine great-great-nephews and-nieces and one great-great-great-niece.

During World War II, Harry served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 and saw action throughout the South Pacific at New Hebrides, New Caledonia and Bougainville. He served aboard the destroyer USS N.K. Perry.

Harry worked in construction as a cement finisher, worked at the Sheldon Mine in Walker, cut wood for the Walker school house before WWII (early 1940s) and worked in the steel foundry here in Prescott. He also worked driving a loader, worked the crusher and delivered material for E-Z Transmix until his retirement in 1990.

Harry's hobbies included his first love of mule deer hunting, fishing, gold panning and metal detecting. He also liked to create wall decorations, drawing and tinkering with just about anything mechanical, and liked woodcutting and just being outdoors. He also had occasional visits to the Yavapai Casino.

There will be a Rosary/Visitation for Harry at the Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 30th, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the Remembrance of Life will be Monday, Jan, 31st at 11 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hospice Family Care, Inc.
