Sarrah Jane (Kearby) Parker

Sarrah Jane Parker, loving wife and mother and long time resident of Prescott, Az., passed away January 12, 2007, at 85, while under the care of Hospice of the Pines, at the Margaret T. Morris Center in Prescott.

Jane was born in Phoenix, Az., and was the only surviving daughter of Margaret (Fannie) Francis Caughron and Noah Bayless Kearby.

Jane lived near and attended Phoenix Union High School until graduation in 1939. Jane took a break from formal education at 18 until she was 72. At 72, Jane began college at Yavapai College in Prescott, Az. During those years she completed 160+ hours of classes. She was interested in the courses, students and teachers. She was not pursuing a degree. During her time at YC she fostered a book exchange program for students.

Following graduation from Phoenix Union HS she married Louis John Parker in 1939 and resided in Phoenix.

In 1943 she gave birth to her only child, son, Russell J. Parker, a resident of Prescott.

In 1951 Jane, "Lou" and Russell moved to Prescott and opened a business with Bob Glau, called Glau Gas and Equipment Co, on Miller Valley Rd. Jane was the secretary and bookkeeper, Lou was the foreman while Russ attended Prescott public schools. In 1959 Jane and Lou opened Parker's Metal Products at 235 N. Marina St. As before, they worked in the heating and air conditioning business. The business remained open into the 1970s when Lou and Jane retired.

After Lou's death in 1986 Jane spent some years working for Brekke's Jewelers, on Cortez St., in Prescott.

Jane was active in Eastern Star - Laurel Chapter, Business and Professional Women, and Soroptimists. She was active in the early decorating of the Prescott Courthouse Plaza at Christmas time and Lou constructed numerous decorations in the early years. While Russell was attending school in Prescott, Jane was active in PTA at each of the schools he attended. Jane was preceded in death by parents Margaret Francis Caughron Kearby Hill Martin, Noah Bayless Kearby, brother George Kearby, husband Lou and daughter-in-law Sherry (Fore) Parker.

Jane is survived by son, Russell Parker, grandson Aaron Parker (Sherry), and granddaughter Susan Burgess (Michael).

Memorial services are scheduled for January 28, 2007, 1:00 pm at the Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave in Prescott.
