James Everett Crockett

James E. Crockett died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in Prescott, at the age of 86. He was born on June 17, 1918, in Martin, Tenn., the son of Homer Allan Crockett and Bessie Lorene McGeehee.

He along with his parents and his younger brother, Joe, moved to the Verde Valley in 1925 and he grew up in Clarkdale. He graduated from ASU in 1940, where he met his wife of 63 years, Nelda Alldredge. They lived in Prescott until the start of WWII.

He served his country during the war in the Navy, much of his time in the Philippines. He returned to Mesa where he worked for Mesa High School as the Business Manager. While there, he helped organize the Arizona Chapter of the Association of School Business Officials, which now numbers in the thousands.

He moved his family to Torrance, Calif., where he worked as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Torrance and Palos Verdes from 1955 until his retirement in 1978. During this time he received his master's Degree from the University of Southern Calif., and he often taught classes there. In 1980, he and Nelda moved back to Prescott to spend their remaining years where their marriage began.

He and Nelda had four children, James Dennis, Barbara Ann, James E. Jr., and Thomas Allan. 'Denny' and Barbara preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Nelda; sons, James Jr. (Debra) and Thomas (Cori); ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Derek), James, III (Julie), Joshua, Jacob (Meegan), John (Amy), Jonathan, Mark, Joseph, Juliann, and Ann; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jim was active in the Lions Club for many years. He was also very active in the LDS Church, serving as a Bishop, Bishop's Counselor, and High Councilman, serving three missions for the church with his wife, and acting as the director of the Family History Center for nine years.

Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30th, at 10 a.m., at the LDS Church at 1101 Sandretto Drive, in Prescott.

Interment will be at the Mesa City Cemetery that afternoon at 3 p.m.

Heritage Memory Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
