Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona August 16, 1973 Two Yarnell youths were killed and a third injured August 7 about 9 a.m. on Highway 80. Killed in the accident were Tod Murgatroyd, 12 year old son of Mr. & Mrs. Jack T. Murgatroyd, of 1548 University Drive in Tempe. The Murgatroyds are summer residents of Yarnell. Also killed was Randy Lee Short, 16 year old son of Dean and Ted Chelson, operators of the Texaco station in Yarnell. The boys died when they were ejected from the vehicle in which they were riding. The driver of the 1964 Chevrolet pickup was Thomas Gail Sheridan, 19, of Yarnell, son of Mr. & Mrs. Rod Sheridan. Young Sheridan was taken by ambulance to Whipple VA Hospital in Prescott with serious injuries. According to investigating officer Russ Dunham of the Arizona State Highway Patrol, the pickup truck was traveling north on U.S. highway 98 when it failed to negotiate a curve. The truck went off the right side of the road and plunged into a deep canyon. Cause of the accident is under investigation by the Highway Patrol. |
