Gertrude J. Mahoney

Gertrude J. "Trudy" Lord Mahoney, 98, died Dec. 12, 2006.
The graveside service will be later in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.

Mrs. Mahoney was born Aug. 11, 1908 in Boston and attended school in New York City. She worked for National Surety Company for 18 years as an accountant. She joined the U.S. Women's Auxiliary Army Corps in 1941 and served for 3 1/2 years during World War II, attaining the rank of captain in the Army Corps of Engineers. She married Eugene H. Mahoney in 1946 and moved to Thompson Falls, Mont. She assisted her husband in his law practice while owning and operating the Gertrude J. Mahoney Independent Insurance Agency. She was a licensed public accountant and tax consultant.

She was instrumental in building St. William Catholic Church in Thompson Falls and was the first president of its Altar Society. Community involvement included active membership in the Business and Professional Club, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, adjutant of American Legion Post 44, Chamber of Commerce and Ladies Golf Association. After moving to Arizona City in 1980 the Mahoneys became charter members of Arizona City Golf Club, and she was a life member of VFW Post 1677 Auxiliary, member of the Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Library and the Home and Property Owners Association.

Survivors include a son, Michael; a daughter, Joy Mary; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Memorial contributions may be made to any charity in Mrs. Mahoney's name.
