| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, March 9, 2007 Goldie Martin Ferguson Goldie Martin Ferguson, 91, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Las Fuentes Care Center in Prescott. Born June 5, 1915, in Fruto, California, Goldie attended schools in Elk Creek, California, and later graduated with a business degree from University of California, Berkeley. Goldie came to Prescott in 1938, staying with her friend and mentor Ethel McMahon, and worked as a bookkeeper for Sam Hills Hardware through WWII. Goldie was known for her warmth of spirit, and talents in the areas of photography, flower and orchid growing, and political activism. Her many friends came from all walks of life. Goldie married Dr. Charles Newton Ferguson, a dentist, in 1947, and becamea homemaker. She turned her considerable energy to raising a family and her hobby of photography. Her passion for orchid growing became a home business, Orchids for a Queen, which supplied florists statewide with fresh orchid blooms. She served as President of the Arizona Orchid Society, based in Phoenix,for several years. Later, Goldie became a corporate officer of Northern Arizona Broadcasting Inc, a successor to Prescott Area Antenna Television (Booster Club), the first local TV and FM radio broadcaster. Goldie was also a member of Soroptimist International's Prescott chapter, and the Republican Women of Prescott. She worked as a local campaign coordinator during Barry Goldwater's Senate and Presidential campaigns, and for other candidates such as Sam Steiger. She founded the CIS: Citizen's Information Service, which distributed information on conservative political causes through mail order. For those who knew her best, Goldie's remarkable ability to thrive and enjoy every circumstance she faced in life made her an inspiring role model. She simply found the positive in the people she encountered, loved them and was loved in return. We saw this happening everyday at Las Fuentes Care Center, where we especially thank her wonderful caregivers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Newton Ferguson in 1990, and son John, in 2000. She is survived by her son, Michael of Prescott Valley; daughter, Patricia of Denair, California; and sister-in-law, Betty Ferguson Brown of Prescott, Arizona. Graveside services will be Monday, March 12, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, 1051 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Ariz. Services entrusted to Heritage Memory Mortuary.
