Esther (Emrick) Uphasu

Esther Emrick Uphaus, age 89, died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Prescott Valley, in the company of her loving family. Born Nov. 25, 1914, in Hillsboro, Oregon, to Henry Solomon and Louisa (Hall) Emrick.

Esther enjoyed spending time with her son and pal, Stan. She took him fishing, hunting, and camping. She loved the woods and the running water of the creeks and rivers. She was a champion fisher who at one time caught a 19-1/4-lb. catfish, while on a fishing trip with her son at the Verde River. She was an outdoor sportsman, and in her later years, succeeded in bringing home a deer.

Her outdoor life was brought to a close with a broken hip. She then spent several years in many care homes, the most special one being the one that was owned and managed by her granddaughter, Kathy who took wonderful care of her grandmother.

Esther is survived by her son, Stan (Kathy) Viele of Rimrock, Ariz.; grandchildren, Danny, Sherry and Kathy; great-grandchildren, Jason, Sara, Torey, Marty, Casey, Jim, Shaun and Aashy; and great-great-
grandchildren, Ann Marie, Thomas, Shaun and Kyle.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 13, at Mosdell Mortuary in Kanab,Utah.

Burial was in Kanab City Cemetery, Kanab, Utah.

Mosdell Mortuary assisted the family with the arrangements.
