Charles (Chuck), Jr. Upshir

Charles "Chuck" Upshir, Jr., 81, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at the RTA Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Lakeside.

He was born Nov. 28, 1924 in Livingston, West Virginia to the late Charles and Violet Estep Upshir. He moved to Warren, Ohio while in grade school and during the 10th grade he met Rebecca "Becky" Reed. A few years later he joined the Unites States Army during World War II and following his Honorable Discharge he married his sweetheart, Becky April 25, 1946 in Kentucky. Chuck worked for U.S. Steel in McDonald, Ohio for 30 years, retiring as the millwright superintendent.

Following his retirement in 1980 Chuck and Becky moved to Arizona where they have since resided. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Chuck was also a dedicated family man and thoroughly enjoyed cooking for the family and has even written a couple of cookbooks for them over the years.

Chuck is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Becky Upshir of Show Low; one daughter, Lori (Rob) Douglas of Show Low; three sons, Thomas (Mary) Upshir of Young, Gary (Kathy) Upshir of Cortland, Ohio, Doug (Donna) Upshir of Phoenix; nine grandchildren, Doug Upshir, II, Lisa Cinni, T.J. Upshir, Brandi Upshir, Christopher Upshir, Bridgette Upshir, Shawn Upshir, Jeremy Upshir and Ariana Upshir; five great-grandchildren, Kevin Upshir, Madelaine Upshir, Bailee Upshir, Damien Upshir, Kaylee Upshir; one sister, Hazel of Youngstown, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Upshir in 2005 and a sister, Melba Barefield in 2004.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Owens Mortuary in Show Low. Full military honors and Interment will take place Friday, Feb. 17 at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.
