Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, April 27, 2007 Murray Alden Johnson, 88, passed away April 7, 2007, in Prescott, Ariz., He was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Dayton, Iowa, to Earl and Beulah Johnson. He was an outstanding athlete, playing football and basketball at Buckeye Union High School. Murray was state champion for the 440-yard dash and held the Buckeye Union High School record for many years. He graduated in 1938. He married Lola Buckelew, whom he had met in school. He went into the service during World War II and served as a ground crew member for the Army Air Corps. He was active in the local 4-H clubs and the Future Farmers of America. Murray and Lola spent their later years in their home among the pines in Prescott. After about 10 years, they moved to Las Fuentes Resort Village. The lives he touched became evident especially in his final days, when his resort friends and staff members lined up outside his room to visit him. Murray is survived by his wife Lola; two children, Isia and Murray Jr. (Mike); and five grandchildren, Cody Parker, Rendee Combs, Shannon Holt, Murray Johnson, III and Dustin Johnson. There are seven great-grandchildren, Alden, Chayce, Brent, Brock, Brayden, Britt and Calee. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Las Fuentes Resort Village.
