Oscar W. G. Holden, Jr., was born Sept, 10, 1931, in Seattle, Wash., to musicians Oscar W. and Leala B. (Coleman) and died Oct. 11, 2005.

Active in music and sports, he graduated from Garfield High School ('49). He attended Seattle University where he played basketball and spent a brief time with the Harlem Globetrotters. He entered the Army, serving in the Korean conflict. After military service, he attended
Clark College (Atlanta, GA) and Yankton College (Yankton, SD). Since college he had resided in Minneapolis, Minn., Vail/Edwards, Colo.,
and Prescott Valley.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Colorado and Arizona (retired). Pursuing his passion for law enforcement, he actively served on several departments in Minnesota and Colorado and as a volunteer in Minneapolis, Minn., and Yavapai County. Other jobs included truck driver, school bus driver and security officer.

His participation in fraternal organizations included Masons, American Legion and Lions International, as well as motorcycle organizations, Blue Knights International, Gold Wing Road Riders of America and America Motorcycle Association. He was also an active volunteer in other community activities.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diana (Burmester); a daughter, Lisa (John) Holden-Byrnes and grandsons, Donovan and Dawson; son, Kevin; daughter, Marjean; two sisters, Grace and Leala; three brothers, Robert, David and James; and four generations of nieces, nephews and
cousins, his mother-in-law, sister-in-law and family, and brother-in-law and family.

He was predeceased by his parents, a half-sister and a brother.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, from 12 to 2 p.m., at the Civic Center Amphitheater, 7501 Civic Center Drive, Prescott Valley, with a gathering of family and friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets as seating will be limited.

Anecdotal remembrances can be sent to the family at 40022 N. Cross Timbers Court, Anthem, Az., 85086.

In lieu of flowers, family assistance donations can be made to The Oscar Holden Memorial Fund, WestStar Bank, 34353 Highway 6, Edwards,
CO 81632. Memorial donations can be made in his name to the following organizations: The Jazz Foundation of America, the American Heart Association, PKD Foundation (kidney disease), or Heifer International.

Hampton Funeral Home of Prescott assisted the family with the arrangements.
