Jesse Gilford (Gil) Cox

Jesse "Gil" Gilford Cox, born Oct. 15, 1913, in Hollywood, Ark., passed away Nov. 7, 2005, at the age of 92. Gil was a resident of the Pioneers Home for the past year.

His early years were spent in Arkansas. He attended college in Arkadelphia, Ark. for one year and then quit to work during the Depression years. He worked at sawmills and drove school buses. He also picked cotton, but during those years, they were not buying cotton. His wife, Ola, used the cotton to make them a mattress. Deciding he needed to leave in order to earn a living, Gil and two friends got together to play music. Gil played the harmonica. Eventually the trio had their own radio show and received requests from the public. He was asked to go to
Nashville to record their music but decided it was too risky with a wife and a child to support.

Gill arrived in Prescott with his wife, Ola R. Cox (Wingfield), and daughter, Linda in 1938. Gil and Ola were blessed with three more children while living in Prescott. He worked for the Union Oil Bulk Plant until 1955, when he bought the Union Oil Bulk Plant in Parker. Gil, Ola and their three youngest children moved to Parker and were
there until he retiree in 1977.

After the death of his wife Ola in 1978, he moved back to Prescott where he remained until his death.

Gil was a member of the Parker Elks Lodge and the Masons. For many years, he was a member of the Prescott Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Odd Fellows Lodge and Masons.

Gil was preceded in death by his parents, J. Riley and E. Mae Cox; his wife, Ola R. Cox (Wingfield); son, J.G. (Sandy) Cox and second wife,
Veva Roberts.

He leaves daughters, Linda S. Brown, Dana Sue Everheart (Denny) and son, Philip B. Cox (Camille). He also leaves 11 grandchildren, Gilford Brown (Sherry), Gregory Brown (Denise), Kenda VonHamm, Polette VonHamm, Dustin VonHamm, Dawn Cuizon (Rod), Bryan Cox (Lisa), Bradley Cox (Jill),
Sean Kemp, Jason Cox and Amber Cox; 12 great grand-children; several nieces and many friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. at the Hampton
Funeral Home, 240 Cortez St., Prescott. Chaplain Raymond Roller will conduct the service.

Graveside Masonic services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 10,
2005, at the Parker Cemetery in Parker, Ariz.

The Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
