Charles Ward Buell died on Oct. 22, 2005, in Prescott, Ariz., at the age of 90. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Sept. 3, 1915; his parents were Charles Ward Buell and Matilda (Block) Buell.

His grandfather, Cyrus Ward Buell, came from Connecticut in his youth to Toledo to work as a schoolteacher and served in city government as City Surveyor for many years.

Charles spent his childhood and youth in Toledo and graduated from the
University of Toledo witha degree in Chemical Engineering.

He enjoyed life-long friendships with his fellow students at the University, especially those in his professional fraternity.

He worked for several years as a chemical engineer in Ohio, in the rubber industry, later moving to San Francisco working with the Bechtel
Corporation. He took part in many large projects of that company in England and in France.

Retiring, he moved to Flagstaff, Ariz. because of a great interest in astronomy. He had many interests, a photographer of discriminating taste, a coin collector, an enthusiastic traveler, he enjoyed cars (during college years he had been a taxi driver) and most importantly the company of one of several well-loved dogs. He later moved to the Granite Gate Resort Retirement Community in Prescott, Ariz, where he claimed his dog Sam had a wide circle of friends!

Charles is survived by the five children of his late cousin, Frank A. Buell, Frank Buell, Jr. of Brookline, Mass., Roger Buell of Victoria, B.C. Canada, Deborah Buell, North Wales, Penn., Thomas Buell of Preston, Conn., and Alison Buell of Santa Monica, Calif.

A kindly person of great probity, he is fondly remembered by his family.

Arrangements were entrusted to Sunrise Funeral Home.
