Cloyce M. (Morse) Butterfield

Cloyce M. Butterfield, age 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, surrounded by her loving family at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Butterfield was born July 12, 1916, in Rutland, Vt. She was the
daughter of Glenn S. Morse and Ethel (Hill) Morse.

Mrs. Butterfield graduated from Rutland High School in 1935, attended
Northfield Seminary in Northfield, Mass., for one year, and graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in 1940. She later attended Castleton State College in Castieton, Vt. After college, Mrs.
Butterfield was a laboratory technician at Mount McGregor, N.Y., and in
North Troy, N.Y. In later years, she taught school in Shrewsbury, Vt.

She married Erwin A. (Pete) Butterfield in 1942 and resided most of her
life in Rutland. She and her husband were co-owners of Woodcraft Hardware for many years.

In earlier years, Mrs. Butterfield was active in the American Assoc. of University Women, the American Red Cross, the Rutland Hospital, Grace
Congregational United Church of Christ, Rutland Girl Scouts, Parent Teacher Associations and RSVP.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Butterfield had been a member of the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ for over 50 years, the Rutland nightly, Rutland County and Vermont State Retired Teacher Associations, RSVP, Comprehensive Health Resources Inc. and the Rutland County Agricultural Society.

Her husband predeceased her in 2001. Her survivors include daughter Kimlee D. Butterfield and her husband Michael J. Olson of Williston, Vermont; daughter Bronwyn W. Butterfield and her husband Warren E.
Miller of Prescott, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Isaac Olson and wife Josianne Pelletier of Montreal, Jessie Olson and fiance Stuart Hayes
of South Burlington, Vt., Kyle Butterfield O'Malley and Chelsea Butterfield O'Malley of Prescott; first cousin, Natalie Hyland of
Bennington, Vt.; sister-in-law, Susan Pease of Williamson, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service was at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, in the Chapel of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ. The Reverand John C. Weatherhogg, pastor, officiated.

Chelsea O'Malley sang a duet of the Lord's Prayer. Jessie Olson read the poem, "To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me." Kyle O'Malley and Isaac Olson shared remembrances. A reception followed in the church parlor.

Tossing Funeral Home of Rutland was in charge of arrangements.
