James Farrell Johnston (Jim), 85, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007,
at his home in. Chandler, Ariz. Born Sept. 25, 1921, Jim was the son of Walter and Elizabeth Johnston of Youngstown, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his wife Martha J. Johnston with whom he celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary in February 2007.

Jim proudly served his country as a Marine in WW II. Upon his return from the service, he and a group of fellow veterans developed a new neighborhood in Youngstown, naming the streets based on their service locations in the war. He and his wife Martha were also founding members of St. Christine's parish and belonged to that church until their move to Chandler three years ago.

Jim truly loved music, dancing and animals. He was always meticulous
in dress and appearance, and enjoyed sharing a cocktail with family and
friends. Jim cherished the art of conversation, a good party, or a friendly game poker which were always infused with his lively sense of humor. He loved to be outdoor, planting flowers, beautifying his yard and socializing with neighbors. In short, he just loved being with
people.

He is survived by his daughters Janice (Ray) Bernardi of Prescott,
Joan (Dave) Hester and Joyce Johnston both of Chandler; and two sons
James (Joan) Johnston of Poland, Ohio, and Jack Johnston of Racine, Wis.

He also leaves a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce O'Connell and John
Cleary of Girard, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kelly and Michael Hester, Jim and Julia Johnston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
