Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, December 13, 2005 Shirley Ann Schmal, age 72, died Dec. 10, 2005, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. She was born March 9, 1933, to John and Helen (Alien) Hillis. Shirley worked and took care of her family and home. She volunteered her time with the mental health association in Phoenix and also worked at the VA Hospital in Prescott helping to gather clothes for the veterans in the area. Shirley and her husband Mel enjoyed antique cars and belonged to the Prescott Antique Auto Club; the family remembers how she enjoyed sitting in the rumble seat of their Model A and enjoyed the time with her granddaughter Michelle who would ride with her. Her family will remember her great sense of humor and the jokes she enjoyed hearing from Mel. Shirley is survived by her husband, Mel; daughters, Marsha (Bob) Bossart, Patricia Fait, Barbara (Henry) Kivett, Shirley Moore, Kimberly (Mike) Ailport, Karmel Schmal (Toni Romero), Caren (Lewis) Moon, Joyce Schmal, Donna Brunner, Lynn Snyder; son, Leon Burchette; brothers, Don and Terry; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Donivan Fait. Commemoration services in honor of Shirley will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at noon, with Visitation held one hour prior to services. Graveside committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Resthaven Park Cemetery 4310 E. Southern Ave, in Phoenix, Ariz. The family of Shirley suggests memorials in her memory to any cancer research foundations. Arrangements entrusted to Sunrise Funeral Home. Information provided by survivors. |
