| Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, September 19, 2007 Dorothy Alene Bigler, 98, of Prescott, Ariz., born in Ashland, Ohio, passed away Sept. 17, 2007, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, 148 S. Marina St., Prescott, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Dorothy's name to Missions at First Baptist Church, 148 S. Marina St., Prescott, Ariz., 86303. Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with final arrangements. -------------------------- The Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, October 3, 2006 Dorothy Alene Bigler, born Feb. 27, 1909, in Ashland, Ohio, to Samuel and Rachel May Fair, passed away Sept. 17, 2007. She was the youngest of three daughters. Dorothy graduated from Ashland High School and then attended Ashland College to prepare for a teaching career. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Ohio for three years prior to her marriage to Albert Frederick Bigler, Sept. 5, 1936. Albert and Dorothy and their three young children moved to Southern California in 1944 where she remained until coming to Prescott, Ariz. in the summer of 1992. During the early years in California Dorothy continued to teach by periodically substituting and tutoring. However, she considered her most joyous role to be that of wife and mother to her family. She enjoyed and excelled in a variety of activities including cooking, crocheting, knitting, leatherwork, metalwork, cake decorating, plastic needlepoint and other crafts. For several years she taught a crafts class in her home. Since moving to Arizona, she contributed to the Prescott community by making newborn layettes for the Yavapai Regional Medical Center; and sweaters, ponchos, and other items for Child Haven. As a young adult, Dorothy accepted God's free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. This became the most important cornerstone of her life. In the churches she attended, she was always actively involved in teaching Sunday school classes, leading and participating in children's and women's groups, serving as a deaconess and most recently here at First Baptist Church, serving on the Prayer Chain. Additionally, Dorothy regularly wrote to many missionaries throughout the world to encourage them. Her wisdom, kindness and spirit of' acceptance have been a blessing to all who knew her. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Beveriy; her son, Fred; two daughters-in-law, Pricilla and Patricia; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Lori, and Samuel; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Sarah, Alicia and Timothy; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and oldest son, both in 1970; and by her two sisters. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends. Information provided by survivors. |
