Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, November 20, 2005 Robert Newell Reeves, age 89, a retired U.S. Marine, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, in Bedford. Military graveside service will be at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent to the Illinois Masonic Children's Home, 441 S. Ninth Ave., La Grange, Ill. 60525. Robert Newell Reeves, loving father of Robin Reeves, Sue Eubanks and Carol Bemenderfer, passed away at the age of 89 on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 4, 1916, and was raised in the Illinois Masonic Children's Home in La Grange, Ill., until the age of 18. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor and participated in the Battle of Midway and four months in Guadalcanal. In 1952, he was subjected to an atomic test in Desert Rock, Nev. He was a career Marine and a 32nd-degree Mason who served his country for 20 years before retiring in 1960. He spent his retirement years residing in Prescott with his wife, Jeffie, before moving to Bedford in 2004 to be near family. Robert was a good father, a loving husband and a good citizen. He died surrounded by his loving daughters and assisted by the dedicated staff, particularly Iema, at Parkwood Nursing home in Bedford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeffie Davis Reeves. Survivors include, daughters, Robin Davis Reeves of Naperville, Ill., Sue (Loyd) Eubanks of Euless and Carol (Bobby) Bemenderfer of Fort Pierce, Fla.; seven grandsons; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-granddaughters; her sister, Dorothy M. Martin of Washington; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Information provided by survivors. |
