James A. (Rocky) Goodhue, 77, of Wickenburg, died Feb. 4 at the Wickenburg Community Hospital Nursing Home. He was born March, 4, 1907 in Crescent, Okla. and lived in Arizona for 15 years.

Married on Dec. 6, 1927 to Winnie Dixon, they were wed for a total of 57 years.

After six years of teaching school, Goodhue became an auctioneer, specializing in livestock. Working with his wife, he owned or worked for community livestock auctions in Oklahoma, Texas, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.

In 1949, Goodhue moved his family to Idaho. They took their string of quarter horses which were among the first in that state. He competed in quarter horse shows and cutting horse contests throughout the northwest. He also judged shows and contests from Texas to Canada.

After 35 years of auctioneering, he retired and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. In 1983, he and his wife made Wickenburg their year-round home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one, son, James F., of Amarillo, Texas; one daughter, Shirli Todd, of Carson City, Nev.; one brother, Francis of Riverton, Wyo.; three grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. in the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through the Wickenburg Funeral Home.
