Dr. Roger C. Slater, M.D., age 76, of Prescott, Ariz., died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at the University Medical Center in Tucson. Roger was born May 12, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, to Ernest and Elsie Morley Slater.

Roger served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1948. He attended Florida State University and became FSU's 1st All American in 1950 for diving and repeated the honor in 1951. He was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1994. Roger attended medical school at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University, graduating in 1955. He started his medical practice in Blythe, Calif., where he was Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Palo Verde Hospital, where he practiced for over 40 years. He then "semi-retired" in Prescott in 1995.

Dr. Slater then became Medical Director for Yavapai County Long Term Care from 2002 to 2004. He loved life, flying, chess, Las Vegas, writing, reading and his family.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Judy of Prescott; children, Gidget (Pat) Schutte of Prescott, Kandee (Chris) Todd of Prescott, Buffy (John) Baer of Englewood, Colo., Sandy (Alma) Slater of Blythe, Calif., Rex (Betty) Slater of Blythe, Calif., Randy Ison of Indio, Calif., Ellen McCarran of Florida, Bruce (Jan Hogle) Slater of Madison, Wis.; brothers, Paul (Pita) of San Pedro, Calif, and Keith (Beatrice) of Long Beach, Calif.; sister, Joan Smith of Georgia; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A private family service will be held Saturday, Dec.3, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma, Society.

The Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
