Bernard Mange

Bernard “Toby” Mange, 62, entered into rest on Jan. 9, 2007 in Mesa.

He was born May 17, 1944 in San Diego, California.

Toby and his family moved to Superior three years ago after he retired from North Island, Naval Aviation Depot in Coronado, California, after 33 years of employment as a sheet metal mechanic. Throughout his years of employment he was very active as a Union member with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local 726, where he served as a Unit Chairman from 1981-1990. He was the Senior Steward from 1994 until his retirement on Jan. 1, 2004. He also served as the Chairman of the Federal Wage Survey Committee for San Diego County and served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 and was stationed in Germany.

Mr. Mange also served as an elected official to the San Ysidro Governing Board, Board of Trustees from Dec. 5, 1983 through Dec. 7, 1990. Prior to serving as an elected official, he served on many district, local school and community committees in San Diego County, also receiving the Honorary Service Award for the PTA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Teofilo Lopez Mange, mother, Alice Mena Mange, and sisters, Delores Mange and Rebecca Yolanda Mange-Dibella.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Marlene Pacheco Mange; daughters, Christina Alamillo, Michelle Mange and Carmen Mange; son, Bernard Mange Jr.; grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, Victor, Elaine, Bernadette, Natasha, Briana, Marlene and Bernard III; brothers, Richard Mange, Daniel Mange, Raymond Mange and Ismael Garcia; and sisters, Mercedes Garcia and Hartense Greene.

Funeral services for Mr. Mange will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at Griffith Mortuary, 101 Johnston, Kearny.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Superior.
