Ivan LaVern Shutt, 71, died of heart failure April 5, 1999, at Kingman, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in Ohio.

Ivan Shutt was born Nov. 25, 1928 in Madison County to Vern and Margaret Shutt. He grew up on a farm northeast of Truro with his father and stepmother, Helen Boren Shutt. He attended Truro Consolidated School and a business school in Des Moines. He then served in the Army during occupational duty, specializing in message decoding. He married Guenivere in July 1961. After retiring as an insurance adjuster, he managed a car rental agency for several years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, father, stepbrother and three nephews.

He is survived by his mother; his stepmother, Helen Shutt of Truro; two sisters, Bernice Bruce of Aurora, Colo., and Elizabeth Smith of Truro; three nephews; and one niece.
