Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, August 17, 2008 Alvin “Al” Johnson, 82, of Chino Valley, Ariz., passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008. Al was born in Mesita, Colo., on April 9, 1926, to Clyde and Mildred Johnson. He served proudly in the Marine Corps during WWII aboard the USS Colorado. Al married Norma Romp in 1947 and in 1950 they moved to Des Moines, Iowa, and lived there until moving to Arizona in the mid-1980s. After Norma passed in 1989, he married Donna, who also passed during their marriage. Al was then briefly married to Mary Ann. For many years, Al worked as a salesman for Sears. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, woodworking and dancing. Al joined the American Legion, Post 40, shortly after moving to Chino Valley. Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; and a son, Douglas. He is survived by his son Phillip Johnson (Janice Kruse) of Madison, Wis.; sister Lenore (Bob) Fonda of Mankato, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at American Legion, Post 40 in Chino Valley. He will be laid to rest at Union Chapel Cemetery in Albia, Iowa, at a later date. Chino Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Information provided by survivors. |
