Gary Gear passed away July 28, 2008, at his home.

He was an associate professor of computer and electrical engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Ariz., and research scientist at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards AFB, Calif.

Survivors include his wife Deborah; mother Claretta Gear; one sister; one son; one daughter; one stepson; one stepdaughter; and several grandchildren.

He was active in FIRST Robotics serving as a Judge Advisor at several regional competitions and as national judge. He was also advisor for the Society for the Advancement of Chicano and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) and Eta Kappa Nu, electrical and computer engineering honorary society.

Professor Gear touched many lives and will be missed by his students and colleagues.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the ERAU Chapel.

Services were entrusted to Hampton Funeral Home, Prescott, Ariz.
