Joseph Anthony Livornese, 88, of Casa Grande died Jan. 15, 2007 in Casa Grande. Mass and burial will be in Pueblo, Colo. Mr. Livornese was born March 19, 1918 in New York City, attended school there and graduated from City College of New York. As a youth he played violin and had a recital at Carnegie Hall. He was a state handball champion. He had a talent for learning languages and spoke more than 15, and studying languages was a hobby for most of his life. He served in the Army and entered France shortly after D-Day. He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he worked for the State Department as a foreign service officer. He was selected for a special language training program at Harvard University. He served in Germany, Spain, Mexico, Uruguay, where he was consul general, and Washington, D.C. He retired in Colorado Springs, Colo., and lived there until coming to live with his daughter and family in Casa Grande six years ago. He loved travel and being with his family and was very patriotic. Survivors include his wife, Agnes, of El Cajon, Calif.; two daughters, Joanne Kramer of Casa Grande and Kathleen Klausen of El Cajon; three sons, John Livornese of Herndon, Va,. Ned Livornese of Aurora, Colo. and Don Livornese of Manhatten Beach, Calif.; a sister, Ann Miller of Rapid City, S.D. and 12 grandchildren.
