| John "Virgil" Latter, 85, of Caliente Resort in Florence died after a long illness on Dec. 31, 2006. A private family service was conducted at Spirit of Joy United Methodist Church in Coolidge on Jan. 3. A graveside service will be held later in Moriarty, N.M. Mr. Latter was born in Ashland County, Ohio, on Sept. 18, 1921. He was a decorated D-Day veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie; four sons, Jerry of Belen, N.M., Jim of Chandler, John of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Tom of Edgewood, N.M.; two daughters, Cheryl of Trinidad, Texas, and Karen of Moriarty, N.M.; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
