Wanda Jean (Howser) Brundridge

Wanda Jean Brundridge, 82, of Show Low, formerly of Lakewood, Calif., died Thursday, June 28 at a Show Low nursing home.

Wanda was born July 20, 1924, the daughter of Victor and Donna Creek Howser in Buffalo, Mont. She was raised and attended school in Buffalo, graduating in 1943. She was married to Pete Brundridge Dec. 20, 1945 in Kansas City, Mont. She had gone to work for Douglas Aircraft in 1944 and continued to work there as a tool grinder for 42 years until her retirement in 1993.

She lived in Long Beach until 1955 when she moved to Lakewood where she lived until coming to Show Low in 2005. She loved her work and was the first woman certified as a tool grinder. She was very active in the United Auto Workers Union where she served as a shop steward. She was the first woman to ever address the UAW convention.

Wanda is survived by a son, Richard (Nancy) Brundridge, of Show Low; three sisters, Nell Vest of Kansas City, Kan., Avis Costello of Westminster, Calif., and Doris Hart of Cypress, Calif.; brother Donald Howser of Poway, Calif.; son-in-law Jim Reynolds; three grandchildren Carrie, Michael and Jason; five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy Reynolds; a sister Ruby and brothers Warren and Ben Howser.

Funeral services will be at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 3 at Westminster Memorial Park in Long Beach, Calif., under the direction of Black's Mortuary.
