Betta Lou (Phillips) Dunavant

Betta Lou Wakefield Dunavant was born in Los Angeles, Calif. in 1919 and passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 in Arlington, Texas. She was born to Dr. and Mrs. Baily Phillips.

Betta was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School and attended Tempe Teachers College, now Arizona State University. She married Eugene Wakefield in 1940. Betta loved her family and the Lord. Some of Betta’s interests were teaching children and quilting. Betta is known for her beautiful, handcrafted quilts. In 2003, she won the “Best of Show” in the Gila County Fair and made the cover of Quilters Quarterly.

Betta is survived by her daughters, Pamela Hulme of Rodeo, N.M., Cathy Ellis of Mansfield, and Dana Whittman of Apache Junction, Ariz.; son, Roland Wakefield of Globe, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

And today, her request was to have a celebration of life! Memorial services were held on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield, Texas.
