Alice Gladys (McAlister) Allen

ARIZONA CITY - Alice Gladys Allen, 94, of Arizona City died Jan. 11, 2007 at Chandler Regional Hospital.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud The Gardens Chapel in Casa Grande. The funeral will follow at 11.

Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen was born Jan. 16, 1912 in Morris Creek, Okla., and was a daughter of Wade and Margaret McAlister. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Casa Grande, was a mission sister, taught Sunday school and was on the Mother Board.

She greatly enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, and she often taught them about God. In June she was recognized as one of the oldest African-American residents of Casa Grande, where she lived for many years.

Survivors include four daughters, Minnie O. Churchwell of Arizona City, Elizabeth M. Johnson of Sahuarita, Rosie L. Allen of Eloy and Bobby J. Sweat of Phoenix; two sons, Walter W. Allen Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, and Leon M. Allen of Casa Grande; 35 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; and 45 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W., in July; three sons, Herbert McAlister, Loston Lorenzo Allen and Londe Bob Allen; four brothers, George, Manuel, David and Lonzo McAlister; two long-lost brothers, John E. and Roscoe McAlister; and two sisters, Annie Ruff and Ronie McAlister.
