Allen A. Jones passed from this life on Nov. 8, 2010, from complications of emphysema. He was surrounded throughout the day with his immediate family and closest friends.

Born in Mena, Ark., on Jan. 19, 1922, to Floyd and Myrtle (Swiger) Jones, Al was the third of six children. In 1926, the family moved to the Williamson Valley area of Arizona, were Al worked the ranches and gained his love of hunting and fishing. A true "cowboy," Al worked on many ranches throughout Prescott, Verde Valley and Northern Arizona.

In November 1942, Al enlisted in the Navy and served with honor during World War II on the USS North Carolina battleship and USS Midway carrier.

Following his time in the service, he received a technical degree as a butcher, and used his skills learned there to provide for his family throughout his life. He worked for many locations in Prescott, including Joe Allen's Market and Walker Meats Company. He retired from Walker Meats at 65, but continued to work locally at Young's Farm in Dewey for many years.

He married the love of his life, Josephine Lewis, on February 15, 1947. They spent 54 years together before she preceded him in death. They had two daughters, Mary Lou and Jo Ann.

Al is survived by his children, Mary Lou Zufelt (Harold) and Jo Ann Froshaug; five grandchildren; one brother, Aulton Jones; and many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Alene Black, Alvena Block and Alice Sandri; and brother Arnold Jones.

He was a kind and gentle man, leading and instructing by example. He loved his family, his hunting and fishing adventures, and golfing with friends. He touched many lives in the Prescott area, and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all those who provided care to Al during the years that he needed that "additional" help so that he could remain at the family home he had shared with Jo. Their assistance and love for Al is greatly appreciated.

There will be a viewing Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St. The funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at 9 a.m. at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St. Interment will be at the Heritage Memorial Park in Dewey, Ariz.
